In order to understand your new hearing instrument, you must first understand how the amplification process works. Your hearing device is a miniaturized sound system that receives, amplifies various frequencies, and transmits sound to your hearing impaired ear. The Fq. (pitches) to be amplified can be shaped to fit the needs of the user. The diagram below to the left shows how a hearing device works.

No hearing instrument can restore lost hearing ability or give you perfectly normal hearing. Nor can hearing instruments reverse an impairment caused by organic conditions. Hearing devices do help you make the most of the hearing you still have through sound amplification. By making the needed sounds audible, your hearing instruments make it easier for you to hear them. As a result, your ability to interpret these sounds and understand speech will improve.
